Fortis has finally given its Marinemaster collection a much needed overall and the results are mightily impressive; however there’s an inevitable price to be paid!

Let’s see if it’s worth it?

Over the past decade or so, the Fortis Marinemaster (which has not been without its fans, I might add) has struggled to keep up with its peers.

Just what exactly is it? Is it a race watch? Is it a space watch? No, it’s dive watch; so why no screw-down crown?

But for 2021 the Fortis Marinemaster paints a far clearer picture of what it is.

While the Fortis brand says of their new Marinemaster M-44 Chronometer that it is a watch for the great outdoors which includes hiking trails and ocean swells alike.

Its specifications tell whole other story which is - that, finally the watch lives up to its Marinemaster name with: a screw-down crown –

a new patented Fortis Lock System that allows the diver’s bezel to turn in both directions, Superluminova X1 and an increased water-resistance up to 500m.

It is indeed a dive watch!

Not only inspired by nature, this new redefined Marinemaster is kinder to nature as its 44mm in diameter case is made of sustainable, robust recycled steel.

Meanwhile its Gear Bezel™ is made of black Stainless steel and has been engineered to offer outstanding grip.

Its specially patterned dial available in black or orange is covered by a Sapphire crystal.

Power comes from the Fortis Werk 11 Manufacture caliber; an automatic movement made by Kenissi for Fortis which offers 70-hours of power reserve.
In addition, the Fortis Werk 11 Manufacture caliber is certified as a chronometer by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).
The Fortis Werk 11 Manufacture caliber has been designed and thoroughly tested to ensure robustness, longevity and reliability.
This is illustrated by its sturdy traversing bridge with a two-point fixation securely maintaining its variable inertia balance.

The new Fortis Marinemaster comes with a choice of either a Stainless steel block bracelet or the new Fortis Horizon rubber strap in amber.

It will be available in early 2022. MSRP is CHF 4,050.

Thoughts? The new Marinemaster M-44 Chronometer puts Fortis back on the map with its good-looking modern design, great level of diving specification which includes a patented bezel locking system.

Not to mention its COSC-certified, Manufacture movement with 70hrs of autonomy. Is the premium price worth it? I think so.

But what do you think? This or the Oris Aquis Date CALIBER 400 or the Titoni SEASCOPER 600???
